Official Video: Rocky Dawuni – Wickedest Sound (feat. Stonebwoy)

Published

on

In celebration of Ghana’s 62nd Independence Day, Rocky Dawuni has released his much anticipated music video “Wickedest Sound” featuring Stonebwoy.

“Wickedest Sound” makes it the 2nd single being promoted from Rocky’s 7th album “Beats of Zion” which officially drops this Friday, March 8. The song is a heavy Afro influenced production with a hint of Reggae and Dancehall giving it a crossover appeal.

“Wickedest Sound” is a song that speaks volumes, and projects the original Ghanaian Sound, Highlife. The track combines elements of modern Afrobeats that fits into the current global sensation.

According to Dawuni, “Wickedest Sound” is a song that pushes the boundaries of my signature sound, which I call Afro Roots. The idea was to pay homage to the Afrobeats movement but to do it in a much more organic style, using live horns, traditional drums from dunduns to kpanlogo drums in addition to synthesizer sounds, and also featuring an African dancehall artist, Stonebwoy. This is a fresh new sound, but it’s also a sound that is celebrating our past, while asserting our step into the future.”

“The video strives to metaphorically capture the genre bending power of the Afro Roots sound by using scenic and personal shots of Ghana’s capital Accra to tell a compelling visual narrative of the everyday lives of musician who are ordinary working people by day but at night transform into powerful keepers of sound and rulers of the nightlife.” (Medium.com)

The eagerly anticipated first official music video from the West L Boyz’s maiden album has now arrived.

The music video was filmed and directed by Nicolas Tate aka Deaf Nick Visuals; a veteran in the UK music scene who has worked with a plethora of talented acts in music as well as the boxing scene.

From the opening scene of the video reminiscent a 007 James Bond movie, you can tell why the West L Boyz recruited Deaf Nick Visuals for their Project.

Titled ‘Grammy’, the video is simply stunning – from its colours, to costumes and choreography.

The video shows the West L Boyz donning their trademark hoodies along with a separate costume which is a fully suited attire.

This matches the songs concept and theme as it gives the viewer an impression of transitioning the guys performing at one of their shows, to them preforming a live set on the GRAMMY Awards stage effortlessly – simply it’s a perfect representation to show that these boys have finally made it to the big stage.

The wonderful performance from the young lady by the name of Lucie has to also be given credit as her energy and dance routine really marries all the shots together perfectly.

This is a 10/10 video indeed from the West L Boyz.
